People With Migraines Are More Predisposed To Have Depression

You suffering from chronic headache, in particular migraine disorder, are more prone to suffer from depression, feel fatigued, and have a host of other strict physical symptoms, according to a clinical investigation published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The clinical investigation involved 1060 man who buy seroquel at headache clinics in six states. Of the people surveyed, 661 reported occasional headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 665 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the woman were diagnosed with migraines.

The medical investigation found women with chronic headache were four times more likely than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Manic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also five times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms linked to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.

Among patient tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical investigation found the likelihood of major Major Depression increased 32-fold if the woman also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms will provoke or be a manifestation of major Depression in woman with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt and Major Depression can heighten pain perception,” said medical study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Atypical Depression suggests a common neurobiology.”

Tietjen says medical investigation are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Manic Depression may be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Careless of what’s causing the dependence between migraine and Manic Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Depression complicates headache treatment and can provoke poorer result for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The medical research was assistanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which considers 18 million American women are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 12000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to ameliorating patients care through instruction and medical research. A neurologist is a osteopath with a wide knowladge of diagnosing, treating and managing diseases of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and multiple sclerosis.
